That title should really read lazy weekend! Now that I don’t have that second job looming over me on the weekends, I’m sort of at a loss for what to do with myself. There’s all these things I need and want to do, but feel like I should be working. So this weekend was sort of lazy and experimental and that was a good thing!
Yesterday my kids came home slightly earlier than expected, so they went with me to the gym while I completed day three of NROLFW. The boys opted for a little sparring.
Then we headed to our local farmer’s market which is seriously one of my favorite places to be in my town. We picked up some rhubarb, mint, watercress, and of course a few homemade donuts. I have a MAJOR weakness for donuts and we have trucks all over town, but I only allow myself the one at the farmer’s market on Saturday’s. You have to have those indulgences people! After that it was off to our library where it was the final day of their book sale which means you fill a paper grocery bag for only five dollars! I was able to load up on even more health and fitness related books. A lot of them were books I was curious about, but probably wouldn’t have ever paid full price for, but at this price they were a steal. The rest of the day was more laziness and less than stellar eating, but I kind of give myself a break on Saturday.
Today it is back to clean eating, and I use Sunday as my food prep day. After the kids left with their dad, I went for a two-mile walk around my neighborhood. It feels weird not to do high intensity workouts, but I’m trying to follow the plan in the book so that I can say I did it and see what the results are. But I can’t just sit still. I live in a really beautiful part of the country, and my neighborhood is home to a Mennonite university that I attended for two and a half years. I no longer consider myself Christian, but this school and the Mennonite community still hold a place in my heart. At the center of the campus is a fountain that has been there as long as I’ve been alive and it is amazing how quiet and beautiful it always is there.
After my walk I started food prep. I don’t really enjoy this, but it is a necessary part of clean eating. If you don’t have the healthy food prepped and ready to eat, you will not eat it. You will reach for the other fast and less nutritious foods, so find a day every week and do this for yourself. I eat a LOT of produce, and soup all week long. So I cut up my veggies, wash my lettuce, and make my soup. I also make some hummus for snacking.
Today I was hungry while doing food prep so I made this smoothie and it was so good I drank both servings!
